Rochdale Borough Council has appointed Willmott Dixon to design and build the new leisure centre in Rochdale town centre. Willmott Dixon, have more than 25 years of experience in delivering leisure and culture facilities and in the last decade has built over 100 pools and 70 leisure facilities. The company has constructed a 50m Olympic training pool at the University of Surrey and one of its most recent projects is the international pool in Corby, which will also be a training venue in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.
Preparation works started on the site (next to the existing leisure centre) in November 2011 and the new Centre will open on Sunday 1 July 2012.
The main construction will begin in the new year and will include an eight-lane 25m swimming pool and learner pool with moveable floor, a sports hall, thermal and fitness suites, dance studios, a youth gym and a car park with over 160 spaces, which will be free for the centre’s customers.
