Central is unique in the region not just because of its three swimming pools - giving the Centre the flexibility to offer a wide range of special weekly pool sessions - but also because of its traditional Health Suite with Turkish and Russian Baths with steam room, hot rooms and relaxation lounge - as well as sauna and tanning capsules.

Gone is all trace of the original slipper baths, long made redundant by today's modern living. Instead Central Leisure Centre has reinvented itself as a centre for health and fitness. Still remaining are the magnificent art deco style pool halls with their high arched ceilings. Having been recently retiled and repainted, they are looking in particularly fine condition.

Today's Central offers a Fitness Studio, featuring an excellent range of fitness equipment, ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels, plus a second gym - designed especially for people who are new to exercise. Here you will find special sessions for women only, over 50s and young people as well as group bookings for people with specific health needs.

For lovers of aerobics you will also find an exciting weekly programme of classes in the fully equipped Cycling Studio with its state of the art exercise bikes - plus a wide range of daytime and evening classes for both adults and juniors in the brand new Dance and Aerobics Studio.

Newly opened in May 2008 is the SHOKK Youth Gym. Designed specifically with young people in mind, this fantastic new gym for 8-16 year olds provides a great way to keep fit and active in a great fun atmosphere. The new fitness line up is completed by inter-active dance mats and a target wall.
