An exciting new water-based activity is available at Middleton Leisure Centre during special weekly sessions for children's parties, holiday play sessions and group hire. The Aqua Jet can pull you along under the water or on the surface, turn on a 10p and travel up to speeds of 2mph. Activity sessions may include time trials, obstacle courses and will be fully supervised by a member of staff.

The sun stayed shining for a family fun day on Sunday at Hollingworth Lake to celebrate a £300,000 extension of the Water Activity Centre.
Hundreds of families enjoyed the ‘come and try it’ day with a variety of water sports on the lake as the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift and Ms Sue Etchells declared the new centre officially open.

Trustees of Link4Life were invited to take a tour of the new Heywood Sports Village to see how work is progressing. All major building work is now completed and floors and finishes are now underway. Trustees were able to see the main entrance with glazed atrium, the pool hall with tanks in place, the sports hall, and the light and airy fitness centre and dance studio with windows overlooking the new grass pitches. It was smiles, fun and sunshine in Middleton as over 3,000 people turned out on Saturday 25 April 2009 for the star studded launch of the new Middleton Arena.
Crowds gathered to meet Olympic great Sir Steve Redgrave CBE who was in town alongside a host of sporting heroes to formally launch the £15 million flagship sports and entertainment venue.

The first National Disability Climbing Competition took place on Sunday 25th April at Climb UK, Rochdale. It was the first time the BMC have run a competition specifically for disabled people. The event was intended to test the responses from the disability community and to lay the foundations for competition opportunities in the future.
