Middleton Arena
Work started in August on the new £13million Middleton Arena to be built in Middleton town centre.
The Project Timeline has been received and it is anticipated that it will be completed at the end of 2008.
The new state-of-the-art cultural and sports centre is part of a financial agreement with supermarket giant Tesco who have agreed to build the new Arena before investing a further £10million in a town centre Tesco Extra store.
The Arena will replace the current Middleton Leisure Centre and Civic Centre bringing them together with fantastic new facilities all under one roof. The existing facilities will remain in service until the new Arena is ready to open to the public.
The plans, led by Rochdale Development Agency and Rochdale Council, have included more than two years of community consultation.
James Foley, Link4Life’s lead Capital Project Manager for Middleton Arena, said, “It is no doubt extremely rewarding and pleasing for everyone that has been involved in this project over the years to see the progress that is now being made on site. The images help to bring to life a really exciting facility that will benefit everyone in Middleton and beyond. It is crucial that the people of Middleton and the Borough have a provision that can cater for the demands of the 21st century and I am sure that once the dream becomes a reality, the community will have an arena which they can be proud of and make use of for generations to come.”

Middleton Arena staff put on their hard hats to see work start on site.
