Swimming Services

Swimming is a statutory part of the curriculum for PE and all children are expected to swim a minimum of 25 metres unaided by the end of Key Stage 2. Link4Life aims to deliver this part of the curriculum in a relaxing environment that encourages development of this key life skill.

Issues of safety in water are also addressed and particularly the dangers of swimming in open water. If children are to retain the water skills they develop at this early age, it is important that they continue to practice and improve.

The Link4Life Go4it Swimming Programme offers progression to intermediate and advanced skills in a range of aquatics disciplines. Basic skills can also be repeated with any age group.

School swimming is available with or without formal tuition. We also provide links to extended and out-of-school activities with clear pathways to other water-based sports and recreational activity as well as training opportunities for staff and professional qualifications.

 Primary Schools Swimming Package

The Primary Schools Swimming Package targets Key Stage 2 children in Years 4 and 6 in Primary Schools. A top up programme is available for Years 5 and 6 for children who have not attained the national curriculum required standard. This all inclusive package includes water safety sessions delivered by our staff in schools and an optional transport package arranged for schools at cost price. Available at pools in Middleton, Heywood and Rochdale.

Aquatic Sports Coaching

The aquatics teaching programme includes a full range of basic, intermediate and advanced water skills. Participants have the opportunity also to gain awards in a range of disciplines including survival techniques.

Swimming without Instruction

School groups can visit the pool for recreational swimming or as part of the PE curriculum during any public swimming session. Pools can be hired for regular group sessions subject to availability.

Swimming Gala

We provide schools with the opportunity to take part in an inter-schools swimming gala in the facilities where they have their school swimming programme. We also organise a boroughwide gala for primary schools and secondary schools reaching the Final. Participation is free for schools participating in the Primary Schools Swimming Package.

Accessibility

Link4Life pools have fully accessible facilities with poolside hoists, mobile hoists, changing beds and accessible rooms to enable people of all disabilities to participate. Facility staff and coaches have also undergone extensive training to provide an approachable and supportive service for disabled users.

Pool Hire

Pools are available for hire for both competitive and fun events including galas, competitions, charity events, sports days, parties and pool discos. Subject to availability, pools can also be hired to provide a regular block booking for group swimming without instruction or for special water based activities, eg snorkelling, canoeing, lifesaving.

Staff Training

The Certificate for Teaching School Swimming (Key Stages 1 and 2) is open to anyone working within a primary school swimming programme eg teachers, classroom assistants, parents. The aim is to enable school staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to deliver swimming training on poolside.

Teaching and Professional Qualifications

Regular training courses are organised to provide qualifications for people wishing to work within the swimming industry. This includes swimming instruction and pool lifeguard.
